Tempio Pausania - Piazza del Carmine
by Valeria Muledda / STUDIOVUOTO

What is a prison and what relationship is established between this place and the city of which it is a part? *This piece of sky is an audiovisual work that is part of the homonymous participatory process of investigation, research, and creation conducted by Valeria Muledda / STUDIOVUOTO around the relationship between the disused architecture of the old Rotunda prison in Tempio, the city, and its inhabitants.

The diameter of the stone body of the Rotunda makes a circle in the sky, marking it, drawing it, as if to limit it to a piece of sky that has lived above the heads and bodies of all the people who have lived in the Rotunda, but also in the city of Tempio. The same sky, with all that it brings. How do we want to inhabit this piece of sky, the Rotunda, and the city?

Despite its large size, like any prison, the Rotunda has the invisible, but there is a present running through it, on the traces of the past: wild plants surround it and inhabit some of its spaces, appropriating them from day to day, creating new ones. Inspired by the continuous time and constant life work of plants, *This Piece of Heaven imagines La Rotonda as a hidden garden, a multifaceted organism, inhabited and rich, composed of life, desires and memories, and of what we can perhaps see today for our new inhabitation of the city and the living.
