LIES IN POWER - Investigative Journalism

Friday 15th September 2023
9:30 p.m.
Tempio Pausania - Piazza del Carmine
Meeting Nello Trocchia, Giulio Valesini and Cecilia Anesi by Pablo Sole and Diego Gandolfo

How much of a liar can power be? How are its lies revealed? How are the enquiries that power fears constructed? Diego Gandolfo and Pablo Sole will talk with investigative journalists Cecilia Anesi of IrpiMedia, Giulio Valesini of Report and Nello Trocchia, correspondent of the daily Domani, who will reveal the behind-the-scenes of their hottest investigations between pandemics, state cover-ups and international investigations. In particular, Anesi will illustrate two investigations, published in several episodes, where the presence and absence of the State play a fundamental role: the first on the expansion of the 'Ndrangheta in Sardinia, the second on Russian influence in Italy through targeted political strategies and massive intelligence activities. Giulio Valesini will recall how his most famous enquiry of recent years, which has literally gone round the world, came about: a two-year investigation into the serious and unconfessed responsibilities of the WHO and the Ministry of Health in the management of the pandemic in Italy, which reveals interests, complicity, negligence and institutional cover-ups at the highest level. Nello Trocchia will illustrate the various steps that led to the denunciation of the violence perpetrated in 2020 by prison police officers on dozens of defenceless inmates confined in the Santa Maria capua Vetere prison, the attempts at cover-up and the scoop-report - picked up by newspapers all over the world - signed by the journalist from Campania and recounted in the book Pestaggio di Stato (State Beatings), published in 2022 by Laterza.
