BOOKOLICA V

Bookolica - the festival of creative readers, presents a fifth edition full of novelties, starting with the locations. Bookolica has become polycentric: Scano di Montiferro, La Maddalena and Tempio Pausania will be the municipalities hosting an increasingly varied and multidisciplinary programme, with authoritative names from the cultural scene, the world of information, cinema and music such as writer Walter Siti, journalist Sacha Biazzo and Iene reporter Roberta Rei, illustrator Tanino Liberatore, singer and actress Angela Baraldi, director Matteo Fresi, journalist Carlo Pizzigoni and many others.

From environmental urgency to investigative journalism, from literature to football to gender issues: those of Bookolica will be days full of meetings, theatre performances, readings, book presentations, concerts, exhibitions and installations.
Moments of confrontation and dialogue to tackle the issue of violence together.
The 2022 edition of Bookolica marks the beginning of a multi-year investigation work analysing the origin of violence and its many facets. Its cultural, social and political role and importance will be addressed from a gender perspective, the festival's new theme of investigation. From childhood to old age, women's bodies are the object of control, judgement and contention, still at the centre of national debate.

The Bookolica festival has always promoted reading and direct confrontation with texts and authors as a method of analysing the present, and from this year on it intends to create connection and generative co-creation of new ideas to combat violence against women and promote a culture of equality. "Our journey of study and discovery stems from the desire to understand, on a cultural as well as a personal and private level, such a complex issue that affects our daily lives," says Fulvio Accogli, artistic director of Bookolica. "Every change is preceded by a moment of awareness: Bookolica wants to be that moment, that opportunity for reflection and common confrontation that leads us to recognise internalised brutality in order to become aware of what belongs to us and what is imposed on us by external superstructures.

Comic and tragic at the same time, unpredictable, hilarious and deeply reflective; epic and at the same time a parody of the contemporary world: Don Quixote's reality is this one and much more, it is what he feels and tries to adapt to what he sees. The words are anchors to the present, modifying and shaping it in the infinite ways in which humans can express themselves. Cervantes' Don Quixote de la Mancha and Antonio Moresco's Don Quixote (SEM, 2020) are the cornerstones around which the festival is developed: literature as the possibility of drawing new words and thus new thoughts, questioning the pre-established.

Water is the natural element indispensable for life, a precious resource that has always been the subject of disputes, conflicts and depletion: it will be the focus of the 2020 edition, a theme that is always topical and of extreme urgency. From Domenico Brancale's poetic performance taken from his latest book Mal d'Acqua (Modo Infoshop 2020) to Emanuele Bompan's L'Atlante Geopolitico dell'Acqua (Hoepli 2019) literature, poetry, music and debate will be the keys with which to analyse environmental issues on a local and global level, in the presence of experts in the field, startuppers, activists and environmental journalists.
